High-Level IS Capabilities
From IS Curriculum
The High-Level IS Capabilities are driven by and intended to describe the general level needs and requirements that the employers hiring IS graduates desire. These are more abstract and stable than the lower level, more specific and concrete knowledge and skills that will be driven from these higher level capabilities.
The capabilities are as follows:
- Improving organizational processes
- Exploiting opportunities created by technology innovations
- Understanding and addressing information requirements
- Designing and managing enterprise architecture
- Identifying and evaluating solution and sourcing alternatives
- Securing data and infrastructure
- Understanding, managing and controlling IT risks
Different types of Information Systems degrees vary in terms of their emphasis on these high level capability areas but all IS degrees should provide fundamental capabilities related to all of these areas.
