[edit] 2 Library Catalog and Internet Resources

Reference Books, Books, Websites & Government Documents Online, Careers, Videos

Use the Catalog to locate books in the Library. There is not a specific area for all disability related books. Pertinent general subject areas are LC4700 for learning disabilities and HV3000 for physically handicapped. But many relevant titles will be found in other call number areas so keyword searching will be important. Helpful keywords include: Americans with Disabilities Act, attention-deficit, hyperactivity, ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, hearing impaired, handicapped, learning disabilities, people with disabilities, special education.

To locate videos use the DVD/Video Search in the Catalog. See also the Videos Section at the end of this Guide.

Reference Books provide background information, subject overviews, facts, and statistics. They also help to identify concepts, issues, keywords, and synonyms or related terms to use in research. Encyclopedias, dictionaires, yearbooks, and almanacs are types of reference books. All reference books have the letters 'Ref' before the call number. Some reference books are included in this Guide. Search the Catalog or browse the Reference shelves for additional titles.

The Careers Collection is located on the Upper Level of the Library and includes titles of interest on job searching and employment for people with disabilities. See Careers section of this Guide below.

The selected Websites and Government Documents Online included below provide facts, news, resources, and links for persons with disabilities and their families. Many include extensive information on fundamental issues such as LD evaluation, legislation, outreach and educational programs, public policy, legal rights, employment, financial support, and technology for the disabled. Lists of pertinent national, state, and private organizations and resources are often available.
