[edit] 2 What Are Search Alerts?

Search alerts, or current awareness tools, are a great way to keep up with scholarly publications or research topics. There are different types of alerts, describe below. Generally, an alert is delivered via email or RSS feed. More information about RSS feeds is available on the Library's RSS page.

  • Search Alerts: Save your search as an alert. The search is run again periodically and a notice of any new results is sent to you by e-mail or RSS.
  • Journal or Table of Contents (TOC) alerts: You select the journals you are interested in, and when a new issue is published, you are notified by e-mail or RSS, with a table of contents of the new issue. Often, links to the articles will be included.
  • Citation Alerts: Three databases, (Web of Science Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), Web of Science Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI), and Elsevier Science Direct College Edition) perform citation alerts, alerting you when an article you are interested in has been cited by another article.
